Tala a service user of Vakaola is a talented and gifted young man who has a passion for Art. In December 2010 Tala was involved in a Community Art project which was a step out of his comfort zone because it involved working alongside people he did not know.
Here Tala was given the opportunity to be part of a Community Art team in partnership with the Porirua City Council and Hope City Youth. He was also supported and guided by his Community Support worker Fuli Tapu.
Tala is of Tokelauan descent and the Art work he did was about his Journey to New Zealand from Tokelau. Tala's art work displayed different transports that were used to come to New Zealand and other Pacific Islands that had also journeyed.
Tala comments "This is cool; I have enjoyed meeting new people. At first I was nervous and did not want to get out of the car. But with the encouragement of my support Worker, I eventually got out of the car and had a lot of fun doing what I love Art"
Tala is currently in the process of putting together his own profile book with all his art work. If you would like to see this project in person take a walk to the Mc Killop street alley way that links to Holy family school in Mungavin avenue in Porirua.
